CARITAS LESOTHO

Environmental Protection Programs

Lesotho like the rest of the world is prone to the negative impacts of global warming. Extreme temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns characterized by long drought spells and flash floods are some of the weather patterns that have a negative impact on the national infrastructure and household food productivity. Protecting our Common Home is therefore key in minimizing the adverse impacts of climate change. Reducing carbon emission and increasing carbon sinks are critical to minimize global warming.

“Many of the poor live in areas particularly affected by phenomena related to warming, and their means of subsistence are largely dependent on natural reserves and eco-systemic services such as agriculture, fishing and forestry. They have no other financial activities or resources which can enable them to adapt to climate change or to face natural disasters, and their access to social services and protection is very limited.” Laudato Si Article 25.
