HIV and AIDS remains a key threat in the lives of Basotho with more than 22.7% of the adult population estimated to be HIV positive. HIV prevalence in Lesotho remains the second highest globally after Eswatini. This is despite the significant strides made in the fight against HIV/AIDS as observed in the Lesotho Population-Based Impact Assessment 2020 results.
The findings of LePHIA study published in July 2021 indicated that 90% of HIV+ people knew their status, 97% of those who knew their statuses were on treatment while 92% of those on treatment were virally suppressed. Provision of HIV services remains key for Lesotho to effectively respond to HIV and AIDS.
